Special Education Teacher | Oak Park, Illinois
Take your passion for education to the next level by supporting middle school students in a self-contained special education classroom. This full-time contract opportunity offers you the chance to make a lasting impact working with 6th to 8th graders in a Functional (RISE) program, utilizing an alternative curriculum tailored to the unique strengths and needs of each student.
You’ll work with a small caseload of 8 students, providing individualized instruction and fostering a nurturing, positive learning environment. This position begins immediately and runs through June 9, 2027, providing stability and a meaningful professional journey in a school that values your expertise.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Current Special Education Teacher certification (or eligibility) required
- Experience in self-contained or alternative curriculum classrooms preferred
- Understanding of or willingness to learn about functional/life skills curriculum (RISE)
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists and paraprofessionals
- Strong skills in creating and implementing IEPs
- Compassionate communicator who thrives in an inclusive, student-focused setting
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach and adapt lessons for a small group of middle school students using the alternative curriculum
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals, tracking student progress
- Work closely with classroom assistants and related service providers to support each student’s growth
- Communicate regularly with families and colleagues to foster student success
- Provide a structured, caring environment where students feel empowered to achieve
