Special Education Teacher - Oakhurst, California
Step into a specialized leadership role supporting teachers across multiple schools as a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) in special education. This full-time, contract opportunity stretches from August 3, 2026, through June 11, 2027, and is based in Mariposa, CA, with engagement across eight area schools. You’ll work closely with the Special Education Director, providing vital coaching and guidance to new educators on developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (SEIS/IEPs), navigating behavioral interventions, and ensuring best practices in special education delivery. Unlike traditional classroom posts, this role focuses on district-level support for TK-12th grade, allowing you to make a meaningful difference across a range of school environments.
Key Requirements:
- California-issued, active Mild/Moderate Special Education teaching credential (required)
- Expertise in special education (IEPs and behavioral intervention strategies)
- Experience mentoring or coaching teachers strongly preferred
- Ability to drive between multiple school sites within the district as needed
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Responsibilities:
- Coach and assist new special education teachers, helping them navigate SEIS and effective classroom interventions
- Travel to eight assigned schools to provide on-site guidance (not daily long-distance travel)
- Collaborate with the SPED Director to address educator questions and support ongoing professional development
- Promote compliance with district and state special education requirements
