Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education or a related field
- Valid state teaching license with special education endorsement
- Experience working with students who are nonverbal or have significant cognitive and developmental disabilities
- Familiarity with alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) tools or willingness to learn
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Compassion, patience, and creativity in adapting curriculum and teaching approaches
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach and support students in a K-2 self-contained classroom setting
- Develop, implement, and adapt individualized education programs (IEPs) to meet students’ needs
- Employ diverse teaching strategies, including visual supports and assistive technologies
- Provide a structured, nurturing classroom environment that encourages engagement and growth
- Collaborate closely with paraprofessional staff, therapists, and families
- Monitor and track student progress, reporting regularly on goals and achievements
- Participate in IEP meetings and ongoing professional development opportunities
