Special Education Teacher | Plainfield, Illinois
Step into a meaningful role supporting students with significant behavioral needs for the 2026-2027 school year. This contract opportunity is located in a supportive school setting, working with grades 3-8 in classrooms of no more than 13 students, alongside two dedicated paraprofessionals. Your expertise as a Special Education Teacher will be fundamental in guiding students toward positive change and academic growth.
You will be at the forefront of helping students develop replacement behaviors, facilitating positive choices, and improving classroom engagement. Strong relationships and structured routines, coupled with your skills in behavior management, will create a calm, safe, and nurturing learning environment.
Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Special Education Certification and Professional Educator License (PEL)
- Adept at working with significant behavior caseloads: elopement, defiance, physical aggression, refusal, and similar challenges
- Experience providing direct instruction and behavioral support in a special education setting
- Compassionate approach with adaptive communication and classroom management skills
- Eagerness to collaborate with paraprofessional staff and other educators
- CPI de-escalation training provided if not already certified
Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction to students in 3rd through 8th grade, reinforcing positive behavior interventions
- Implement and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Teach and model replacement behaviors to foster social and academic success
- Work closely with two paraprofessionals per classroom to maintain a supportive and structured environment
- Participate in ongoing professional development and behavior intervention training (no physical restraint required)
