Special Education Teacher in Smyrna, DE
Bring your expertise in special education to an impactful role working with elementary students in a supportive environment. We are seeking passionate Special Education Teachers for full-time, contract positions (37.5 hours per week) in self-contained classrooms serving grades K-5. Multiple openings are available, providing a collaborative setting where paraprofessionals are present in the classroom to support instruction and classroom management.
In these positions, you'll work directly with students who have a range of exceptionalities, from mild to moderate, as well as moderate to severe needs. Your dedication will help foster academic, social, and behavioral growth, enabling students to thrive both in the classroom and beyond.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Current teaching certification in Special Education (or eligibility to obtain)
- Experience working with elementary-aged children with special needs
- Strong classroom management and differentiation skills
- Ability to create and adapt Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with staff, students, and families
- Previous experience in self-contained classroom settings strongly preferred
Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging, individualized instruction in all academic areas to students with diverse learning needs
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals and related service providers to meet student goals
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs and behavioral plans
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and structured classroom environment
- Maintain accurate documentation and follow all procedural guidelines
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and support strategies
