Step into an impactful role guiding elementary students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a self-contained classroom environment. Responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s strengths and needs
- Delivering specialized instruction that aligns with state standards and individualized learning goals
- Utilizing proven strategies and interventions, including positive behavior supports and behavior intervention plans
- Collaborating with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, school psychologists, behavior specialists, and other professionals
- Leading and mentoring paraprofessionals to maximize instructional effectiveness within the classroom
- Monitoring and documenting student progress to inform instruction and maintain compliance
- Fostering essential skills such as communication, social interaction, self-regulation, and daily living abilities
- Maintaining a structured, safe, and engaging classroom tailored to diverse sensory and behavioral needs
Desired experience and skills:
- Valid Virginia Special Education Teaching License or eligibility for licensure
- Familiarity with IEP development, special education compliance, and data-driven decision-making
- Strong foundation in classroom management and positive behavioral support
- Collaborative approach with multidisciplinary teams and families
- Preferred: prior experience with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, self-contained classroom settings, ABA principles, visual schedules, and functional communication systems
- Training in crisis prevention and de-escalation is a plus
