Key Qualifications:
- Active Virginia Special Education Teaching License or eligibility for licensure
- Experience developing and implementing IEPs for students with disabilities
- Strong knowledge of special education compliance and required documentation
- Effective classroom management and implementation of behavioral supports
- Ability to collaborate and communicate professionally with multidisciplinary teams and families
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Expertise in self-contained special education settings
- Familiarity with ABA methods, structured teaching, visual schedules, social stories, and functional communication systems
- Background supporting students with significant behavioral and cognitive needs
- Crisis prevention and de-escalation training
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design and carry out IEP-driven instruction, following state standards
- Provide direct teaching, individualized to each student’s needs
- Use positive behavioral interventions and track student progress
- Partner closely with related service providers (SLPs, OTs, BCBAs, psychologists)
- Supervise and support classroom paraprofessionals
- Foster academic skills, social interaction, communication, and daily living abilities
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and engaging classroom setting
