Virtual Special Education Interventionist - Maryland
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field from an accredited college or university
• Active Maryland Professional Eligibility Certificate (PEC), Standard Professional Certificate (SPC), or Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) with a Special Education endorsement issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)
• Minimum of 2+ years of experience teaching special education students (school-based and/or teletherapy experience preferred)
• Direct experience writing, implementing, and tracking IEP goals within virtual or blended learning environments
• Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
• Comfortable using teletherapy platforms, digital learning tools, and virtual instructional software
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Support
• Deliver direct, modified virtual instruction to students with diverse learning needs in individual, small-group, or whole-class remote settings
• Implement evidence-based instructional strategies and curriculum modifications tailored to each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP)
• Monitor academic progress and behavioral needs, using data-driven assessments to adapt instructional strategies in real time
• Foster an inclusive, supportive, and engaging online classroom environment
Collaboration & Teamwork
• Partner closely with general education teachers, related service providers (SLPs, OTs, PTs), school administrators, and parents to support student success
• Coordinate virtual accommodations and modified learning materials across subject areas
• Schedule, lead, and participate actively in virtual IEP team meetings, eligibility determinations, and annual reviews
Documentation & Compliance
• Maintain thorough, timely, and compliant records of student attendance, service delivery, and IEP goal progress
• Ensure all instructional practices and documentation strictly comply with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) standards, district policies, and federal special education mandates (IDEA)
• Draft clear, detailed IEP documents, progress reports, and functional behavior plans as needed
Technology & Virtual Tools
• Utilize remote learning platforms, digital whiteboards, and interactive software to deliver engaging specialized instruction
• Adapt printed and digital educational materials to ensure accessibility for diverse learning profiles
• Assist students and families with setting up and navigating online learning tools and platforms
Advocacy & Empowerment
• Guide students in developing self-advocacy, problem-solving, and independent learning skills
• Provide guidance, resources, and regular updates to families regarding their child’s academic and developmental progress
Benefits & Compensation
• 1099 Independent Contractor Status
• Compensation for both Direct & Indirect Service Hours
• Estimated Pay Range: $38 – $45+ / hr (commensurate with experience, district budget, and candidate fit)
• Flexibility with schedule and working 100% from home
