Remote Special Education Teacher (SPED) - Illinois

Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education from an accredited institution 

• Active Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS1) endorsement issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) 

• Minimum of 2+ years of experience (school-based and/or virtual instruction preferred) 

• Proficiency with Illinois IEP systems (e.g., EmbraceIEP), IEP facilitation, and progress monitoring 

• Strong instructional design, behavior management, and differentiated teaching skills 

• Comfortable navigating telepractice platforms, learning management systems (LMS), and digital instructional software

Key Responsibilities Assessment & Specialized Instruction 

• Design and deliver direct virtual specialized instruction (individual and small group) tailored to students’ IEP goals across academic areas 

• Administer informal and formal academic assessments, diagnostic screeners, and progress-monitoring checks to gauge student growth 

• Differentiate general education curriculum and implement individualized accommodations and modifications 

• Collect and analyze instructional data continuously to drive educational planning and goal mastery

Collaboration & Case Management 

• Manage virtual student caseloads and coordinate special education services with multidisciplinary teams 

• Partner closely with general education teachers, related service providers (SLPs, OTs, Social Workers), paraprofessionals, and families 

• Schedule, organize, and facilitate virtual IEP meetings, annual reviews, and domain conferences

Documentation & Compliance 

• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of direct instructional logs, IEP goals, and quarterly progress reports 

• Ensure all instructional practices, IEP development, and accommodations strictly align with ISBE Part 226 regulations, district policies, and IDEA mandates 

• Complete thorough academic evaluation summaries, present levels of academic achievement and functional performance (PLAAFP), and compliance paperwork

Technology & Virtual Delivery 

• Utilize interactive virtual classroom platforms, digital whiteboards, and assistive technology tools to maximize student engagement 

• Adapt curriculum materials into accessible digital formats suited for remote learners 

• Provide basic platform guidance and technical support to onsite e-helpers, facilitators, and parents

Advocacy & Empowerment 

• Foster student independence, executive functioning, and self-advocacy skills within the virtual learning environment 

• Provide instructional strategies, behavior support guidance, and educational resources to families and general education teachers

Benefits & Compensation 

• 1099 Independent Contractor Status 

• Compensation for both Direct & Indirect Service Hours 

• Estimated Pay Range: $36 – $46+ / hr (commensurate with experience, district budget, and candidate fit) 

• Flexibility with schedule and working 100% from home
