Remote Special Education Teacher (SPED) - New York
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education from an accredited institution
• Active New York State Teaching Certificate: Students with Disabilities (SWD) (All Grades PK–12, 1–6, or 7–12) issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED)
• Minimum of 2+ years of experience (school-based and/or virtual instruction preferred)
• Familiarity with NYSED IEP processes, Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings, and digital documentation systems (e.g., SESIS)
• Strong instructional design, behavioral management, and differentiated teaching skills
• Comfortable navigating telepractice platforms, remote learning management systems, and assistive technology tools
Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Specialized Instruction
• Design and deliver direct virtual specialized instruction (individual and small group) aligned with students' IEP goals across academic areas
• Administer informal and formal academic diagnostic assessments and progress-monitoring checks to evaluate student performance
• Differentiate general education curriculum and implement individualized accommodations and modifications
• Collect and analyze instructional data continuously to drive educational planning and goal mastery
Collaboration & Case Management
• Manage virtual student caseloads and coordinate special education services with multidisciplinary teams
• Partner closely with general education teachers, related service providers (SLPs, OTs, School Psychologists), paraprofessionals, and families
• Schedule, organize, and facilitate virtual CSE / IEP meetings, annual reviews, and re-evaluation conferences
Documentation & Compliance
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of direct instructional logs, progress reports, and IEP goal updates
• Ensure all instructional interventions and IEP development strictly align with NYSED Part 200 regulations, district policies, and IDEA mandates
• Complete thorough academic evaluation summaries, present levels of performance (PLOP), and compliance paperwork
Technology & Virtual Delivery
• Utilize interactive virtual classroom platforms, digital whiteboards, and assistive technology tools to maximize student engagement
• Adapt curriculum materials into accessible digital formats suited for remote learners
• Provide basic platform guidance and technical support to onsite e-helpers, facilitators, and parents
Advocacy & Student Empowerment
• Foster student independence, executive functioning, and self-advocacy skills within the virtual learning environment
• Provide instructional strategies, behavior support guidance, and educational resources to families and general education teachers
Benefits & Compensation
• 1099 Independent Contractor Status
• Available for FT or PT schedules
• Compensation for both Direct & Indirect Service Hours
• Estimated Pay Range: $40 – $50+ / hr (commensurate with experience, district budget, and candidate fit)
• Flexibility with schedule and working 100% from home
