Special Education Teacher in Vernon Hills, IL

Make a meaningful difference supporting middle school students as a Special Education Teacher for the upcoming academic year. This contract opportunity is based in the Vernon Hills area, with dynamic responsibilities split between two nearby middle schools. Spend half your day at each campus—just a five-minute drive apart—supporting 8th graders in co-taught and resource class settings.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid LBSI (Learning Behavior Specialist I) certification required
- Demonstrated experience delivering resource supports and co-teaching at the middle school level
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with general education staff
- Strong instructional, organizational, and communication skills
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, positive learning environment for every student
Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and small group instruction to 8th grade students, focusing on both resource classes (approximately 8–10 students) and co-taught classroom settings
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and differentiated instruction
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in compliance with regulatory guidelines
- Maintain thorough documentation and regular communication with families, case managers, and support teams
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet diverse learning needs
- Engage in professional development and orientation activities as required (August 5–11 for new teachers, if onboarding is completed in time)
Enjoy a consistent Monday–Friday schedule from 7:20 am to 2:50 pm (3:05 pm Wednesdays), with a 30-minute lunch each day and a typical workweek of 35 hours. The assignment runs from August 17, 2026, through May 28, 2027, offering a fulfilling school year to grow professionally and support students’ success.
