Special Education Teacher - Waukegan, Illinois
Make a lasting difference guiding middle school students as a contract Special Education Teacher for the upcoming academic year. In this role, you’ll deliver instruction to small groups (approximately 8-10 students in resource classes), focusing on personalized strategies that promote student progress. Your expertise will be key in fostering independence and confidence in every learner.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid teaching license with a Special Education endorsement (LBSI)
- Proven experience supporting middle school students in both co-taught and resource environments
- Ability to operate independently, demonstrating initiative and flexibility
- Strong knowledge of IEP implementation and differentiated instruction
- Effective communication skills for collaboration with staff and families
Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction for 8th grade students in both resource and co-taught classes
- Collaborate with general education teachers to plan lessons and deliver accommodations
- Track and report on student progress toward IEP goals
- Foster an inclusive, supportive classroom environment tailored to individual needs
- Participate in school meetings, professional development, and staff activities
This contract position runs from August 17, 2026 through May 28, 2027, at 35 hours per week (Monday through Friday, typically 7:20am–2:50pm, with slight adjustment on Wednesdays). A 30-minute lunch is included each day. Early onboarding allows for participation in new teacher orientation, ensuring you begin with robust support.
