Special Education Teacher | Waukegan, Illinois
Make a real impact supporting middle schoolers as a Special Education Teacher serving both co-taught and resource classrooms for 8th grade students. This contract role offers an opportunity to work across two neighboring middle schools just minutes apart, helping a small group of resource students (approximately 8-10 per class) and collaborating closely with staff.
The position covers 35 hours weekly, with contract hours from 7:20 AM to 2:50 PM (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) and slightly extended on Wednesday. The assignment runs from August 17, 2026, through May 28, 2027, with the chance to participate in new teacher orientation in early August if paperwork is finalized promptly.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois teaching certification with LBSI endorsement
- Proven experience instructing or supporting students in special education resource and co-taught settings
- Comfortable working independently while being an engaged team member
- Ability to adapt instructional strategies to meet the unique needs of middle school students
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and colleagues
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction in both resource and co-taught classes for 8th graders
- Support students’ academic and behavioral growth using evidence-based practices
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to ensure inclusive and effective learning environments
- Maintain accurate and timely records, including progress monitoring and IEP documentation
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and school activities
