Special Education Teacher | Waukegan, Illinois
Step into an impactful role as a Special Education Teacher working with elementary students in a supportive, resource-rich environment. This contracted assignment focuses on a self-contained classroom for 4th and 5th graders, with a small group of 7-8 students, ensuring individualized attention and meaningful connections.
This opportunity is located within a building dedicated exclusively to self-contained elementary classrooms, allowing for close collaboration with experienced colleagues and continuous professional support. The assignment begins on August 17, 2026, with the option to join a new teacher orientation from August 5-11 if onboarding is completed promptly, and concludes on May 28, 2027 (unless emergency days extend the school year). The staff schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:05 am – 3:35 pm, and Wednesday from 8:05 am – 3:50 pm, totaling 35 hours per week plus a daily 30-minute lunch.
Desired Qualifications:
- Special Education Teacher certification, with LBSI or equivalent credentials
- Experience working in self-contained classroom environments
- Familiarity with Unique or STAR curriculum is highly desirable
- Strong commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive classroom culture
- Collaborative spirit and excellent communication skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivering individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs
- Implementing specialized curricula and adapting materials to meet student IEP goals
- Creating an engaging, structured, and nurturing classroom environment
- Collaborating with colleagues, paraprofessionals, and families for student success
- Maintaining accurate records and participating in IEP meetings
