Step into a fulfilling opportunity supporting elementary learners as a Special Education Teacher in North Chicago. You'll make a meaningful impact by guiding a caseload of 8–10 students in grades K–4, utilizing a resource model that emphasizes both individualized and inclusive learning experiences.
In this position, you’ll blend direct instruction during pull-out sessions with in-class (push-in) support in general education settings. Beyond academics, your role will also center on fostering social and emotional growth, ensuring every student has the tools and confidence to succeed.
Key Qualifications:
- Current Illinois Professional Educator’s License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement, or eligibility to obtain one; for out-of-state candidates, please consult the ISBE Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS) for application instructions.
- Demonstrated experience teaching or supporting students with diverse learning needs in a resource or inclusion model.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, working seamlessly with general education staff, support specialists, and families.
- Commitment to maintaining a positive, supportive, and engaging classroom environment.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a resource caseload of elementary students, planning and delivering individualized instruction.
- Provide both pull-out and push-in services, collaborating with general education teachers.
- Assess student progress and adapt instructional strategies accordingly.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring compliance and documentation standards.
- Address both academic and social/emotional development needs.
- Maintain clear, respectful communication with families and multidisciplinary teams.
This full-time, onsite contract runs through June 2027, with consistent hours Monday through Friday (35 weekly hours), a 30-minute lunch break, and two 15-minute breaks each day.
