Special Education Teacher | West Hartford, Connecticut

Two full-time opportunities are open for certified Special Education Teachers to serve elementary students in grades 3-5 at well-supported schools close to West Hartford, CT. These roles focus on providing vital support to students with social-emotional and functional needs. One position is available in a Social Emotional Behavioral Classroom beginning now through October—with the potential for extension. The second is in a Functional Classroom from December through early March, also with the option to extend. Both are in-person, 40-hour-per-week contract roles.
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
- Active Special Education Teacher certification in Connecticut (required)
- Previous experience working in specialized educational settings preferred
- Strong skills in behavior management, differentiated instruction, and IEP implementation
- Excellent communication abilities with students, staff, and families
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive learning community
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students
- Create a structured, supportive classroom environment tailored to social-emotional or functional needs
- Collaborate with general education staff, related services providers, and families
- Monitor student growth and adjust instructional strategies as needed
- Participate actively in school meetings and professional development
