Special Education Teacher | Wilmington, Vermont
Exciting contract opportunities await passionate special education teachers eager to support students across a range of grade levels and unique abilities. These full-time roles offer the chance to make a lasting difference in self-contained classrooms with dedicated caseloads, providing specialized instruction and fostering a nurturing environment for students who need it most.
Three placements are available:

Elementary: Teach in a K-5 autism-focused, self-contained class with a maximum of 6 students. Shape early academic and social development in young learners, delivering tailored lessons and cultivating meaningful progress.

Middle School: Guide grades 6-8 in a therapeutic, self-contained classroom with up to 10 students. Ideal candidates will have experience working with children who have faced trauma, employing trauma-informed practices to support emotional and academic growth.

High School: Lead a therapeutic classroom for grades 9-12, serving a self-contained caseload of up to 12 students. Your background supporting teens with trauma histories is essential, as you'll help students develop skills for life beyond high school.
Qualifications and Experience Sought:
- Valid certification and credentials as a Special Education Teacher
- Experience with self-contained classrooms and individualized instruction
- Background working with students with autism (for the elementary setting)
- Trauma-informed background crucial for therapeutic middle and high school classrooms
- Compassion, strong communication skills, and adaptability
- Ability to collaborate with related service providers, families, and support staff
Role Responsibilities:
- Create, implement, and adapt individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies
- Track student progress and maintain detailed records
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom atmosphere
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for comprehensive student support
