Key qualifications:
- Current Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Special Education teaching license for Secondary level
- Ability to obtain or complete Rhode Island Structured Literacy proficiency (Right to Read Act) within one year of hire
- Experience with high school students, particularly those with Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD) or significant behavioral needs, preferred
- Strong classroom management skills and a compassionate, student-centered approach
- Capacity for teamwork, communication, and rapport-building with students, families, and staff
- Commitment to supporting students in a “Self-Contained” or “Sub-Separate” classroom environment
Responsibilities include:
- Leading instruction for high schoolers in a specialized classroom setting
- Developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's strengths and needs
- Collaborating with support staff and related service providers
- Creating a structured, engaging, and positive learning environment to facilitate academic and emotional growth
- Collecting data on student progress and adjusting strategies accordingly
- Fostering strong communication with parents and guardians
