Professionals in this role will teach in either an autism-focused self-contained classroom at the elementary level or in a supportive setting for students with autism spectrum disorder or mild/moderate intellectual disabilities at the middle school level. You’ll be integral to fostering an inclusive, nurturing classroom where every student thrives.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid Georgia Special Education License with relevant endorsements (Adaptive SPED or SPED General Curriculum)
- Previous experience teaching students with autism or significant physical and academic needs is strongly preferred
- Ability to provide individualized, differentiated instruction and behavioral support
- Commitment to collaborative teamwork with staff, families, and support specialists
- Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills
- Dedication to positive outcomes for students with diverse needs
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead self-contained special education classrooms, tailoring lessons to individual student IEPs
- Implement adaptive curriculum strategies that address academic, social, and physical development
- Work closely with paraprofessionals, therapists, and administrators to coordinate services
- Maintain compliant records and support IEP process and documentation
- Engage with families to share progress and implement strategies for student growth
