In this specialized setting, you’ll work with four students identified with autism and intellectual disabilities—two of whom are nonverbal and utilize assistive communication devices, while the others communicate verbally and with the help of visual supports. Key Qualifications:
- Maryland Special Education Teacher License with High School Endorsement
- Experience with students with autism and intellectual disabilities
- Knowledge of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) and visual supports
- Skilled in managing behavioral challenges such as physical aggression, spitting, disrobing, and elopement
- Strong collaborative approach, working effectively with paraeducators and allied staff
- Ability to develop and adapt individualized instructional plans
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and small-group instruction based on student needs
- Integrate communication supports—AAC devices and visual tools—into daily instruction
- Implement behavior intervention strategies to ensure a safe and positive classroom
- Foster skill-building and social development in partnership with support staff
- Oversee academic, behavioral, and progress documentation
- Engage in scheduled planning time (1 hour daily) and enjoy a duty-free 30-minute lunch
- Maintain clear and positive communication with families and other professionals
This assignment runs from January 2, 2027, through June 18, 2027, with an immediate start possible. Scheduling is Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 3:00pm, offering consistent hours and valuable planning time built into each day.
