Special Education Teacher in Cambridge, MA

Bring your expertise as an experienced Special Education Teacher and Reading Specialist to a rewarding contract assignment supporting high school students in the Cambridge, MA area. This full-time role focuses on delivering intensive reading interventions with a caseload of approximately 30 students, utilizing Orton-Gillingham or Wilson Reading techniques. The assignment is set to run from September 1st to October 30th, with the potential to extend through December.
Qualifications:
- Current Special Education Teaching certification (grades 5-12) required
- Massachusetts DESE license in special education mandatory
- Orton-Gillingham or Wilson reading certification required
- Completion of at least 1 year of Orton-Gillingham practicum is essential
- Demonstrated success targeting reading challenges in high school students
- Familiarity with individualized reading programs and ongoing academic interventions
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and monitor structured literacy interventions for a diverse group of high school learners
- Manage a dynamic caseload, possibly including some rising 8th graders
- Provide engaging, evidence-based instruction to support students’ reading growth
- Collaborate closely with general and special education colleagues, families, and service providers
- Maintain thorough documentation of progress and adapt strategies as needed for individual student needs
