Special Education Teacher | Central Square, New York

Step into a rewarding contract role supporting students as a Special Education Teacher working with middle and high school-aged learners in a self-contained 12:1:1 setting. This position runs from September through June, with school-day hours from 8:15 am to 3:15 pm. You’ll be assigned to both a middle and high school, managing a classroom with up to 12 students, providing individualized academic and behavioral support, and collaborating closely with a dedicated Teaching Assistant and multidisciplinary staff.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid New York Special Education teaching certification suitable for middle and high school settings
- Experience in IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring
- Skilled in managing challenging behaviors through positive and proactive strategies
- Ability to design and deliver differentiated instruction to meet a variety of learning needs
- Strong collaboration skills for working with teaching assistants, related services, and family members
- Background in supporting students who need intensive academic and behavioral interventions
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead a 12:1:1 self-contained classroom, delivering special education services
- Design, implement, and update IEPs in partnership with the school team
- Develop engaging lessons and activities tailored to individual student goals
- Employ effective behavior management techniques to create a positive, structured environment
- Work side-by-side with a teaching assistant and related service professionals
- Communicate student progress and needs clearly to parents, team members, and school staff
