Special Education Teacher in Mexico, NY

Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Hold a current New York Special Education teaching certification, appropriate for middle and high school levels.
- Prior experience developing and implementing IEPs.
- Skilled in effective behavior management strategies and classroom routines.
- Proficient in differentiated instruction tailored to diverse learning needs.
- Comfortable collaborating with a Teaching Assistant and multidisciplinary specialists.
- Demonstrated background supporting students with intensive academic and behavioral requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead a self-contained 12:1:1 classroom (up to 12 students, 1 certified teacher, 1 full-time TA).
- Develop and implement engaging, individualized lesson plans.
- Oversee and update IEP development in collaboration with school teams and families.
- Deliver evidence-based academic and behavioral interventions for a diverse student group.
- Provide training and direction for the teaching assistant to create a positive, structured learning environment.
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and related service providers to ensure student progress.
This assignment runs from September through June, 8:15 am to 3:15 pm, allowing for a consistent school-day schedule and the opportunity to focus on what matters most—your students’ growth and achievement.
