Special Education Teacher in Fenton, MI

Contract opportunities are available for certified Special Education Teachers for the 2026-2027 school year (August 17, 2026 – June 11, 2027), with multiple openings for both Cognitive Impairment (CI) and Resource Classroom positions (K-12th grade). These roles offer the chance to work on-site within self-contained classrooms (max 22 students), fully supported by a collaborative special education team, classroom paras, behavior specialists, and ongoing mentorship.
Key qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with preferred endorsements in Cognitive Impairment (CI) or Emotional Impairment (EI); Learning Disabilities (LD) or MDE ZA (Early Childhood) plus another area of Special Education accepted
- Experience or familiarity with Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and IDEA federal regulations
- Comfort working within urban districts, with awareness of unique student and community needs
- Willingness to provide official university transcripts prior to district consideration
- Ability to support caseloads that may adjust throughout the academic year
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Primary responsibilities:
- Deliver differentiated instruction to students with a range of disabilities
- Manage self-contained or resource classrooms (assignment dependent)
- Collaborate closely with other special education professionals, support staff, and paraprofessionals
- Participate in IEP meetings, progress monitoring, and documentation
- Engage in ongoing professional development and mentorship opportunities
- Implement strategies/resources appropriate for supporting students and families in urban environments
