Embark on a highly impactful role supporting elementary students with cognitive impairments in a dynamic and collaborative educational environment. In this contract opportunity, you’ll partner directly with a multidisciplinary team, facilitating meaningful progress for students experiencing significant challenges in self-regulation and communication, often coupled with mental health needs.
This position is tailored for educators with a CI (Cognitive Impairment) teaching certification who have the versatility to thrive in programs structured similarly to those focused on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). You’ll work onsite with a team deeply committed to student growth, using best practices in crisis management and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
- Valid CI (Cognitive Impairment) teaching certification required
- Substantial experience working with students on the autism spectrum
- Background in crisis intervention and management
- Familiarity with AAC strategies or devices
- Strong commitment to collaborative team-driven approaches
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide instruction and interventions for elementary students with diverse cognitive, behavioral, and communication needs
- Employ evidence-based practices for self-regulation, communication, and behavior support
- Collaborate with colleagues (teachers, therapists, specialists) as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Engage in proactive crisis management and de-escalation when necessary
- Tailor learning strategies and supports to individual student profiles
Position Details:
- Full-time, school-based; 37.5 hours per week
- Schedule: 7:30 AM – 2:45 PM, Monday through Friday (with a 30-minute unpaid lunch)
- Contract dates: ASAP through June 11, 2027
- Serve in a single, onsite role with committed support staff
