About the Position
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Special Education Teacher to provide specialized instruction and support for students with disabilities in a K–12 school setting. The ideal candidate will create engaging learning experiences, collaborate with educational professionals, and provide individualized instruction designed to meet each student’s academic, behavioral, and developmental needs.
Job Duties
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) based on student needs, goals, and accommodations
- Provide specialized instruction using evidence-based teaching strategies and differentiated learning approaches
- Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and assessments to support diverse learning needs
- Monitor and document student academic, behavioral, and developmental progress
- Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, administrators, and families
- Participate in IEP meetings, evaluations, and multidisciplinary team discussions
- Implement positive behavioral interventions and classroom management strategies
- Create a structured, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
- Support students in developing academic, social, communication, and independent living skills
- Maintain compliance with district, state, and federal special education regulations
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field from an accredited institution
- Valid North Carolina teaching license issued through the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI)
- Appropriate Exceptional Children (EC) Special Education license/endorsement for the assigned student population and disability area
- Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), IEP development, and special education compliance requirements
- Ability to differentiate instruction and support students with varying academic, behavioral, and developmental needs
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
- Successful completion of required background screening and district onboarding requirements
- Previous experience working with students with disabilities preferred
