Empower young learners and make a lasting difference in the Athens area by supporting students as a Special Education Resource Teacher. Two contract opportunities are available, working with either elementary or middle school age groups. You'll be placed based on your preference, teaching in a dedicated resource setting with manageable caseloads at either East Leroy Elementary or Athens High School. With a 35-hour workweek and a consistent Monday–Friday daytime schedule, you’ll have the structure you need while inspiring students in a supportive environment.
What we’re looking for:
- Active Michigan Special Education teaching license (please provide documentation)
- Experience or strong interest in Resource Room settings
- Passion for supporting elementary or middle school students with diverse needs
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for partnering with general education staff and families
- Ability to develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals in an inclusive, supportive classroom environment
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing targeted instruction and interventions in a resource classroom (caseload: 10 students for elementary, 11 for middle school)
- Developing and maintaining IEPs, collecting data, and tracking student progress
- Collaborating with teachers, related service providers, and families to promote student growth
- Creating an engaging, positive learning environment tailored to each student’s strengths and challenges
- Supporting inclusion wherever appropriate and advocating for student needs
