ProCare Therapy is partnering with Abilities First in New Windsor, NY to hire a full-time Special Education Teacher for a self-contained lower elementary classroom serving approximately 6–8 students.
This is a specialized educational setting supporting students with significant developmental, academic, communication, and behavioral needs. Teachers work as part of a broader team of classroom support staff and related service professionals, making this a strong fit for someone who values collaboration and a highly individualized approach to instruction.

Class Size: Approximately 6–8 students
Schedule: Monday–Friday, full-time
Contract: Full school year
Certification: Active NYS K–12 Special Education certification required
What You'll Be Doing
In this role, you'll provide individualized instruction while working closely with the team to address each student's academic, developmental, communication, and behavioral goals.
Responsibilities include:
Delivering instruction aligned with individual IEP goals
Developing and adapting lessons based on individual student needs
Monitoring and documenting measurable student progress
Supporting students with developmental, behavioral, and communication needs
Reinforcing therapy and behavioral goals within the classroom
Collaborating with teacher assistants, paraprofessionals, and related service providers
Implementing classroom and behavior support strategies
Creating a consistent, structured environment where students can build academic and functional skills
Participating as an active member of a multidisciplinary educational team
What We're Looking For
Active NYS K–12 Special Education certification
Experience working with students with developmental, academic, and/or behavioral needs
Comfort working in a structured, self-contained setting
Strong classroom management and communication skills
A collaborative approach to working with paraprofessionals and related service providers
Commitment to individualized instruction and measurable student growth
Experience with students who have autism or other developmental disabilities is highly relevant to this setting.
