Special Education Teacher - Portsmouth, Virginia
Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity as a Special Education Teacher dedicated to supporting students’ diverse learning needs. This full-time position (37.5 hours per week) offers placements in early childhood or K-12 settings, based on your preference—you’ll be working at a single school site to provide continuity and a focused experience. The school year runs from August 24 through June 4, and there’s a strong possibility for year-over-year renewal.
Your expertise will serve either early childhood students or K-12 learners, with three roles available for each group. Qualifications:
- Valid Virginia licensure in at least one of the following:
- Special Education: General Curriculum (PreK–12)
- Special Education: Adapted Curriculum (PreK–12)
- Early Childhood Special Education (Birth–Age 5)
- Experience teaching or supporting students with special needs
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and multi-disciplinary teams
- Flexibility to adapt teaching strategies to individual student needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored instruction to students based on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Cultivate a supportive, inclusive classroom environment in either early childhood or K-12 settings
- Maintain accurate documentation on student progress and interventions
- Collaborate with educators, therapists, and families to deliver holistic support
