Certified Grades 6 - 8 Special Education Teacher - Poughkeepsie, New York

Your role begins as soon as background checks are complete and continues through June 26, 2026. A 6-week summer program is also available for those seeking year-round engagement.
You’ll work with small, supportive teams consisting of one teacher and three staff, with manageable caseloads (6–8 students per classroom). Students range from verbal to non-verbal, across various developmental levels, and include individuals with behavioral needs. All staff receive training to effectively support classroom dynamics.
Schedule:
- Full-time, 35 hours per week
- Typical schedules: 8:30 AM–4:00 PM or 8:00 AM–3:30 PM
- Serve either preschool to 3rd grade, or ages 12–22
Qualifications:
- NY state Special Education TEACH certification covering the grade levels you will support
- Master’s degree in Education (MA)
- Experience teaching special education across the elementary, middle, or high school age spectrum
- Strong classroom management skills with both verbal and non-verbal learners
- Commitment to positive behavioral supports and collaborative teamwork
Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and differentiated instruction in accordance with each student’s IEP
- Foster a nurturing, inclusive classroom setting for all abilities and communication styles
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals and related service providers to optimize student outcomes
- Monitor and document progress, adapting approaches as necessary
- Participate in IEP meetings and professional development as required
