Special Education Teacher | Puyallup, Washington

Step into an impactful role supporting older students as a Special Education Teacher within a transition classroom setting. This full-time, onsite contract opportunity runs the entire 2026-2027 school year and is focused on serving young adults (ages 18-22) as they develop essential life and vocational skills. You'll work within a highly supportive team, providing dedicated instruction to help students achieve greater independence and success in their post-secondary lives.
Essential Qualifications:
- Valid Washington State Special Education (SPED) teaching license and ESA certificate (must be verified at the time of applying)
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Special Education Teacher in a school environment – candidates must demonstrate a robust, mid-career history in SPED classrooms
- Experience supporting transition-aged students (18-22) or leading similar life/vocational skills programs is strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of IEP development, case management, and compliance with state and federal regulations
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to commit to full-time, onsite work for the entire academic year
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver differentiated instruction and support tailored to young adults in a transition learning environment
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs), progress monitoring systems, and effective classroom management plans
- Facilitate lessons and activities that promote independence, career skills, and community integration
- Collaborate with families, related service providers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive support for each student
- Maintain accurate records and participate in district initiatives, including the BIE adjudication process as needed
