Special Education Teacher in San Mateo, CA

Embark on a rewarding contract assignment supporting elementary students with moderate to severe needs in a vibrant educational setting. This full-time opportunity (35 hours/week, 6.5 hours/day with a 30-minute lunch) is situated in Oakland, CA and runs from August 10, 2026, through May 27, 2027. Two positions are available, both focused on serving K-2 students—primarily those with Autism—providing a collaborative and well-resourced environment.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Valid, active California Moderate/Severe Education Specialist credential is a must.
- Experience teaching students with moderate to severe disabilities, Autism preferred.
- Familiarity with elementary (K-2) curriculum for special education populations.
- Comfortable utilizing TeachTown and TEACCH instructional materials.
- Skilled in collaboration and communication, working alongside paraprofessionals and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver daily specially designed instruction to a caseload capped at 10 students in a Mod/Severe K-2 classroom.
- Plan, implement, and assess individualized education programs (IEPs) targeting unique academic and functional goals.
- Employ evidence-based strategies, including TeachTown and TEACCH.
- Foster a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom climate.
- Collaborate with 2 paraprofessionals in each room and engage with school-based support teams.
- Establish constructive partnerships with families and related service providers.
