Special Education Teacher in Des Plaines, IL
An exciting opportunity awaits an experienced Special Education Teacher passionate about working with 4th and 5th grade students. This contract position begins August 17th and runs through June 3rd (potential extension possible if emergency days are added). You will play a vital role in supporting students’ success and guiding them through an engaging academic year.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement required
- Expertise and classroom experience in special education for upper elementary students
- Strong knowledge of IEP writing, modification, and implementation
- Skillful collaboration with support staff, general education teachers, and families
- Ability to create differentiated instruction tailored for varied learning styles and needs
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and continuously update Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for assigned students
- Teach and adapt curriculum to meet the specific needs of 4th and 5th grade learners with disabilities
- Foster a welcoming and structured classroom environment that promotes growth and inclusion
- Monitor student progress, track data, and provide consistent feedback to parents and staff
- Participate in regular team meetings, parent conferences, and professional development sessions
- Utilize planning periods and lunch breaks effectively, adhering to the daily 8:00am-3:30pm schedule (approximately 37.5 hours per week)
