Special Education Teacher in Athens, GA
Help shape young lives and create a meaningful impact as a Special Education Teacher in an elementary-level, self-contained classroom dedicated to serving students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and significant cognitive challenges. In this full-time contract role, you’ll provide adapted curriculum instruction within a nurturing, structured environment, guiding students toward greater independence and academic growth.
Your expertise will allow you to design and implement individualized education programs (IEPs), develop classroom routines, and foster essential skills for communication, daily living, and social interaction. You’ll work closely with paraprofessionals, therapists, and families, ensuring each student’s unique needs are met with compassion and creativity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction based on adapted curriculum standards tailored to individual learning profiles.
- Develop, document, and track progress on IEPs, ensuring compliance and effective goal setting.
- Establish and supervise classroom management systems; implement behavioral supports and intervention strategies.
- Facilitate collaboration with support staff, related service providers, and family members.
- Use data-driven methods to track student progress and adjust instructional strategies.
- Promote social, emotional, behavioral, and functional skill development.
- Supervise paraprofessionals within the classroom setting.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid Georgia Special Education Certification.
- Demonstrated experience working with students on the Autism Spectrum and with significant cognitive disabilities.
- Proficiency in developing IEPs and employing strong classroom management.
- Familiarity with adapted curriculum or relevant certification preferred.
- Knowledge of ABA principles, visual supports, structured teaching, and functional communication systems is advantageous.
- Prior experience supervising paraprofessionals a plus.
Reference checks, including one from a recent supervisor or administrator, are required prior to interview scheduling.
