An elementary autism program near Athens, GA is seeking an experienced educator to guide a self-contained classroom, supporting elementary students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and significant cognitive impairments. In this full-time contract role, you will provide adapted curriculum instruction, cultivate a structured and nurturing environment, and help each student achieve greater independence.
Key Qualifications:
- Georgia Special Education Certification (required)
- Demonstrated experience with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Proficiency in developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs)
- Strong skills in classroom management and behavior intervention
- Adapted Curriculum certification or relevant experience (preferred)
- Experience supporting students with substantial cognitive disabilities (preferred)
- Understanding of ABA, structured teaching methods, visual supports, and functional communication strategies (preferred)
- Familiarity with supervising paraprofessionals in a self-contained setting is a plus
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead classroom instruction using adapted curriculum standards designed for autism spectrum and complex learning needs
- Develop tailored IEPs and closely monitor student progress
- Coordinate classroom routines, ensuring safety and structure
- Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families
- Foster student development in communication, socialization, behavior, and functional skills
- Collect and analyze data to adapt instructional methods and behavioral supports
- Maintain a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom climate
