This contract role focuses on serving students ages 18-21 with diverse learning, communication, and behavioral needs, all within a public, self-contained classroom setting. You’ll deliver enriching alternate curriculum in ELA, math, and vocational subjects, working collaboratively with a supportive team of 2-3 paraprofessionals.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Maryland Special Education Teaching License with High School Endorsement required
- Demonstrated experience instructing students with moderate to significant special needs
- Familiarity with alternate curriculum, individualized instruction, and data-driven educational planning
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and engage with students
- Ability to foster a respectful, safe, and motivating classroom environment
- Experience managing behavior intervention plans is a plus
Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction using alternate curriculum across academic and vocational subjects
- Oversee a caseload of 6 students with varying needs in a self-contained, separate day setting
- Develop, adapt, and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Collaborate closely with paraeducators and related service providers
- Monitor progress, document growth, and regularly communicate with caregivers
- Manage classroom operations, transitions, and activities, ensuring all students are actively engaged
- Participate in professional development and team meetings as scheduled
- Maintain a welcoming, organized, and positive classroom atmosphere
