This rewarding contract opportunity is designed for Special Education Teachers passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of elementary students. Set in the vibrant Portland, ME area, this position is available immediately and runs through June 11, 2027. Work a consistent schedule of 32.5 hours per week, with school days from 7:25 AM to 2:10 PM (early release Wednesdays at 1:10 PM), allowing for a healthy work-life balance.
Two positions are available, with flexible options for on-site or experienced virtual candidates. Emphasis is placed on educators with life skills instruction or behavioral program backgrounds, ready to support students in reaching their fullest potential.
Key Qualifications:
- Proven expertise as a Special Education Teacher, preferably at the elementary level
- Experience working with life skills curricula and/or behavioral programs is highly valued
- Valid teaching licensure for Special Education (or eligibility)
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to create and adapt individualized education plans to meet diverse student needs
- If applying for the virtual role, you must have prior virtual teaching experience and carry liability insurance (1099 contract requirement)
Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored instruction to students with a variety of learning needs in a supportive classroom environment
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families
- Track and report student progress, modifying strategies as needed to encourage growth
- Foster a positive, inclusive atmosphere for every learner
Compensation for this role ranges from $34-38 per hour. Comprehensive benefits are available to W2 contractors working on-site.
