Special Education Teacher in Buford, GA
In this rewarding contract opportunity for the upcoming school year, you'll serve as the lead educator in a self-contained elementary classroom focused on students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and significant cognitive disabilities. Your classroom, designed for students requiring intensive individualized support, will empower learners to thrive academically, socially, and behaviorally through an adapted curriculum and targeted interventions. The schedule is full-time, so you'll have the chance to help students make tangible progress each day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction using adapted curriculum standards, tailored to the unique needs of each student
- Develop, maintain, and implement IEPs focused on measurable growth and independence
- Establish and manage effective classroom routines and positive behavioral support systems
- Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families to maximize student development
- Routinely collect and analyze data to inform instructional strategies and monitor student progress
- Differentiate lessons to address varied learning, behavioral, and communicative needs
- Support the development of social skills, communication abilities, and daily living skills for all students
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Valid Georgia Special Education Certification required
- Direct experience supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Success in developing and implementing IEPs, managing classroom behavior, and working with students with complex learning profiles
- Preferred: Adapted Curriculum certification or experience; experience in self-contained classrooms; familiarity with ABA, structured teaching methods, visual supports, functional communication systems; leadership or supervision of paraprofessionals
