Special Education Teacher | Dalton, Georgia
Make an immediate impact supporting students with unique needs in a well-structured, inclusive educational environment. A full-time contract role is available for a Special Education Teacher, working within a self-contained high school classroom focused on functional curriculum and supported by two paraprofessionals and a Registered Behavior Technician. This opportunity is located near Dalton, GA, with the assignment running from August 4th, 2026, to May 26th, 2027, and may involve a few additional days for pre- and post-term planning. Successful performance could lead to a contract extension for the following school year.
Key Qualifications:
- Active Special Education GaPSC Certification with content coverage through 8th grade.
- Adapted Curriculum Endorsement required; applications from candidates with pending credentials will be considered.
- Previous experience working in a self-contained, lower-functioning classroom preferred.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with support staff (paraprofessionals, RBTs).
- Strong commitment to individualized instruction, patience, and adaptability.
- Thorough understanding of functional curriculum design and implementation.
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction tailored to each student’s IEP and functional needs.
- Develop, implement, and monitor lessons and classroom strategies in collaboration with the classroom team.
- Utilize specialized materials and adapted curriculum approaches for maximum student engagement.
- Collect data and document student progress toward goals.
- Communicate proactively with parents and school staff.
- Contribute to IEP development and participate in regular meetings.
- Foster a supportive, safe, and respectful classroom climate.
