Special Education Teacher - Ellicott City, MD

This rewarding contract position is ideal for a dedicated Special Education Teacher seeking a role supporting students ages 18-21 in a self-contained, public separate day school setting. Your expertise will help guide a caseload of six students along alternative academic and vocational pathways designed to build real-world skills and independence.
You’ll be supported by a collaborative team, including 2-3 paraeducators, and benefit from a consistent Monday to Friday schedule from 7:30am to 3:00pm, with allotted planning time and a duty-free lunch. The classroom environment is tailored to students requiring specialized support in learning, communication, behavioral skills, and functional academics, including ELA, math, and vocational subjects.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active Maryland Special Education Teacher License with High School Endorsement required
- Experience working with students with moderate to significant learning and behavioral needs preferred
- Ability to implement and adapt alternate curriculum materials
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Commitment to fostering dignity, independence, and growth in students
- Willingness to work collaboratively with paraeducators and related service teams
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver individual and small group instruction utilizing alternate curriculum
- Develop and carry out IEPs addressing academic, communication, and behavioral goals
- Apply evidence-based strategies to support learning and self-regulation
- Coordinate with support staff to ensure a positive, inclusive classroom culture
- Monitor student progress, collect data, and adjust instruction as needed
- Communicate effectively with families and interdisciplinary teams
