Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity supporting elementary students in special education. Situated near Grasonville, MD and surrounding areas, this role spans from August 17, 2026, through June 18, 2027, providing vital services within a self-contained elementary setting. You’ll work full-time (37.5 hours/week), Monday through Friday, with variable start and end times between 8 AM and 4 PM (30-minute unpaid lunch), adjusted per campus schedule. Class sizes begin with five students, expanding to nine or ten, and you’ll collaborate with paraprofessionals daily.

The classroom operates under the PEALS framework—Program for Emotional & Academic Learning Support. You will design dynamic curriculum, closely monitor student progress, and update IEPs in alignment with student needs. Different intervention programs are implemented, such as Read 180, iSPIRE, the Bridges Program, and Orton-Gillingham strategies; your role will adapt these tools according to each student’s profile.

Key Qualifications & Skills:

  • Valid Maryland Special Education Certification.
  • Experience with elementary-aged students in a self-contained setting.
  • Familiarity with diverse instructional interventions (Read 180, iSPIRE, Bridges, Orton-Gillingham) is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of IEP development, documentation, and review processes.
  • Ability to cultivate positive, supportive relationships with students and staff.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility for variable schedules and caseload needs.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and implement individualized instruction and behavioral supports.
  • Monitor progress towards academic and emotional goals.
  • Prepare for and participate in IEP meetings (typically Tuesdays).
  • Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team focused on holistic student success.
  • Foster a safe, nurturing classroom environment.
