Special Education Teacher | Groton, Connecticut
Embark on a rewarding assignment as a Special Education Teacher within a dynamic middle school Life Skills classroom for grades 6-8. This full-time, contract position offers the chance to make a meaningful difference supporting students in a self-contained setting. The role starts as soon as possible and runs through the end of the school year, providing excellent experience working directly with students who benefit from a focus on functional academics and daily living skills.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid certification to teach Special Education at the Middle School level
- Experience in self-contained or Life Skills classroom settings preferred
- Proficiency in writing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Skilled in adapting curriculum to meet diverse learning needs
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with families and school teams
- Compassion, patience, and commitment to empowering students
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging, individualized instruction to middle school students in a self-contained Life Skills class
- Develop, write, and monitor IEPs to ensure students’ educational goals are achieved
- Create a structured, supportive environment that nurtures student independence and growth
- Collaborate with related service providers, general educators, and support staff
- Maintain regular communication with parents and caregivers about student progress
