This contract opportunity is ideal for a dedicated Special Education Teacher with a passion for alternative curriculum and individualized support. Work with a caseload of 6 students, ages 18-21, providing ELA, Math, and Vocational instruction alongside an experienced para support team.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Maryland Special Education Teaching License with High School Endorsement
- Experience working with students who have learning, communication, and behavioral challenges
- Familiarity with alternate or modified curriculum
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with para support staff and related service providers
- Adaptable and solution-oriented approach
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging instruction in ELA, Math, and Vocational skills using an alternate curriculum
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to student needs
- Foster a positive, inclusive environment that encourages student growth and independence
- Collaborate with 2-3 dedicated para support staff to ensure effective classroom operation
- Communicate regularly with families and multidisciplinary team members
- Participate in meetings, professional development, and planning activities
- Balance classroom responsibilities with scheduled planning time and a 30-minute duty-free lunch
- Maintain accurate documentation related to student progress and compliance
