In this contract position, you'll work with a small caseload of six students aged 18-21 in a self-contained classroom designed to foster growth in academics and life skills. This setting encourages collaboration and individualized attention, with robust support from a team of 2-3 paraprofessionals. You'll help students achieve their goals in alternate curriculum areas, covering English/Language Arts, Math, and Vocational subjects.
What You'll Bring:
- Current Maryland Special Education Teacher license with a High School Endorsement
- Experience working with students who have learning, communication, or behavioral needs
- Strong commitment to educational equity, patience, and adaptability
- Talent for creating engaging lessons tailored to varied abilities
- Collaboration skills to coordinate with support staff and other educators
- Effective communication with families, colleagues, and administration
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver alternate curriculum instruction for a small group of 18–21-year-olds
- Implement IEPs and document student progress in a classroom designed for individualized support
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals to ensure all students’ needs are met
- Teach ELA, Math, and Vocational/life skills, adapting materials as needed
- Participate in professional development and staff meetings
- Maintain proactive communication with families and support networks
Role Details:
- Contract position, Monday–Friday, from 7:30am to 3:00pm
- One hour daily planning time and a 30-minute duty-free lunch
- Immediate start date and contract extending through June 4, 2027
