Special Education Teacher - Oakland, CA
Make an impact supporting elementary students with moderate to severe needs in a dynamic educational environment. You'll work a full-time schedule (7.17 hours per day, 35.87 hours per week) during the school year, from 8/12/26 through 6/3/27. This contract offers the opportunity to support a dedicated elementary caseload (11 students) and collaborate with a supportive school team.
What you'll need to succeed:
- Valid and active California credentials for moderate/severe special education (required)
- Previous experience working with elementary-aged students in Special Education (mod/severe population preferred)
- Familiarity with development and implementation of IEPs
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with families, therapists, and site staff
- Organizational ability to manage documentation, progress monitoring, and individualized student supports
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and adapt curriculum for elementary students with moderate/severe disabilities
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers, paraeducators, and related service providers
- Maintain accurate records and progress monitoring documentation
- Foster an inclusive, positive learning environment tailored to the needs of each student
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians to support student growth
