Special Education Teacher | Pawtucket, Rhode Island
Make a difference in the lives of elementary students by supporting their growth as a Special Education Teacher in a dynamic learning environment. This contract position runs through the 2026-2027 school year, requiring creativity, compassion, and an understanding of diverse learning needs.
Your role will serve an elementary caseload, based on the district’s needs. You may either support students as a Resource/Inclusion Specialist—empowering those with mild-to-moderate disabilities as they participate in the general curriculum—or lead a Self-Contained classroom, providing tailored instruction to learners needing structured support. The position is full-time, 35 hours weekly.
Desired Qualifications:
- Holds a valid Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Special Education license for Early Childhood, Elementary, or Secondary level.
- Compliant with, or prepared to complete within one year, Rhode Island Structured Literacy proficiency as required by the Right to Read Act.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with staff, students, and families.
- Passion for adapting lessons to meet unique student needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to guide student progress.
- Deliver instruction that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth.
- Collaborate with general education teachers and related service providers to adapt curriculum and classroom activities.
- Collect data to inform instructional decisions and regularly communicate progress.
- Create a classroom environment that celebrates diversity, encourages inclusion, and maintains high expectations.
