Special Education Teacher in Silver Spring, MD

Key Qualifications:
- Current Maryland Special Education Teacher license with High School Endorsement
- Experience working with alternate curriculum and a range of academic subjects including ELA, Math, and Vocational skills
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach with support staff and colleagues
- Compassion for students with different learning abilities, particularly in the areas of communication and behavior management
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging, differentiated instruction in ELA, Math, and Vocational subjects designed to meet each student's individual educational plans
- Collaborate closely with 2-3 paraeducators for daily classroom support
- Develop and modify alternate curriculum materials and instructional strategies based on assessed student needs
- Track and document student progress, communicating achievements and areas for growth with parents and interdisciplinary team members
- Maintain a structured, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment focused on skill building and independence
This position offers a consistent schedule with hours from 7:30am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday. Each day includes a dedicated hour for lesson planning and a 30-minute duty-free lunch, helping you balance instructional and prep time effectively.
