Special Education Teacher - Tacoma, WA

Multiple positions are available, including Elementary Resource, Junior High Resource, Junior High Support Center (all 1.0 FTE, 37.5 hours/week), and an Elementary Resource Teacher at 0.8 FTE (30 hours/week). These roles are carried out in person, providing a rewarding, hands-on experience alongside students and fellow educators.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid Special Education teaching certification required
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education or related field
- Demonstrated experience with elementary or junior high students in resource/support settings
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to create and adapt Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Passion for helping students achieve academic and social success
- Commitment to an inclusive, respectful classroom environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction in resource or support center settings to meet diverse learner needs
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to create effective learning plans
- Assess and monitor student progress, adjusting strategies as needed
- Implement and manage IEPs to ensure all legal and educational requirements are fulfilled
- Foster positive, respectful relationships with students, families, and colleagues
- Maintain detailed records and participate in relevant meetings and professional development
