Step into a rewarding special education role providing vital support for students with functional and adaptive needs across both elementary and high school age groups. In this contract-to-hire opportunity, you'll split your week between the elementary and high school environments, both conveniently located on the same campus near Troy, NC. Manage a manageable caseload of 15 students—6 elementary and 9 high school—delivering personalized, adaptive instruction as the official teacher of record.
You’ll collaborate closely with an experienced, long-term instructional assistant in both settings who supports classroom continuity and compliance. Your expertise will help ensure each learner receives targeted, standards-aligned support in a nurturing environment, fostering growth and independence.
Qualifications:
- Current certification in Exceptional Children: Adapted Curriculum (K-12) preferred; open to other EC certifications
- Previous special education teaching experience, ideally with adaptive or functional skills programs
- Strong understanding of IEP development, compliance, and progress monitoring
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work alongside instructional aides and school staff
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as teacher of record for elementary and high school adaptive classrooms
- Deliver direct, specialized instruction tailored to individual student needs
- Develop and implement IEPs; assess student progress and adapt strategies as needed
- Coordinate with instructional aides to ensure consistent support and meet compliance requirements
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with regulations
