Special Education Teacher - Troy, New York

Make an impact supporting young learners as a Special Education Teacher, guiding preschool students ages 3-5 in both integrated and self-contained classroom settings. You'll play an instrumental role in shaping individualized educational experiences and supporting each child's unique growth. This full-time position follows a predictable Monday to Friday schedule, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, giving you evenings free while you inspire progress during the school year and a six-week summer program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student.
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team—including speech, occupational, and physical therapists—to foster an inclusive, supportive environment.
- Supervise and mentor classroom support staff, promoting a positive learning atmosphere.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current with best practices in special education.
- Uphold New York State Next Generation Learning Standards within each lesson and activity.
Qualifications:
- Current New York State Certification in Special Education or Students with Disabilities (Birth to Grade 2) is required.
- Demonstrated experience working with preschool-aged children, preferably in special education settings.
- Strong commitment to inclusive education, with excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to manage both integrated (18 students) and self-contained (12 students) classroom environments.
- Familiarity with creating a cohesive learning plan alongside therapy providers.
